TCM is a holistic method that looks at the body as a unique eco-system that has its own seasons and climates, which need to stay in balance; it uses acupuncture, herbs, diet and physical exercises to help maintain this balance. The emphasis in TCM is on keeping the body healthy so that the question of illness does not arise.
APA uses several of the principles of TCM, such as the importance of a balanced diet and free movement of energy within the meridians, but especially the 5 Element Theory.
The Five Element Theory is an integral part of the APA system. It is a way of understanding the causes and manifestations of physical and emotional problems in humans and animals. Understanding each Element and how it manifests, at ease and in dis-ease, helps to give a clear idea of which essential oils, nutrition, and home environment will be most suitable for your animal. The Five Elements can be used to give insights into the root of pathologies, our loved ones and ourselves and resolve many problems before they even begin.
APA also considers the Chinese meridians. Meridians are the conduits of energy that carry the flow of 'qi' (often described as the ‘life force energy’) to all parts of the body, supporting life and health.
There are twelve major meridians, each associated with an organ system. If there is a blockage at any point along the meridian, qi will not flow which will result in pain in that area of the body, or a more general imbalance in the systems controlled by that meridian. Certain essential oils suit particular meridians.
Acupressure points are the gateways into the meridian pathways from where we can directly influence the flow of qi and help to maintain its balance by using needles or finger pressure or essential oils.
When one body system interacts with another there is an exchange of qi, this is what happens in hands-on healing. The more freely qi flows within a person the stronger positive influence they can have on others, which is why when working as a healer it is helpful to develop your own qi, one of the things taught on APA level 2.
Kinesiology was developed by an American chiropractor, Dr George Goodheart, at the beginning of the 20th century. It incorporates ancient and modern systems to create a very holistic healing system.
Our bio systems can be affected by many things in life: physical or emotional trauma, diet, lifestyle, stress, any of these can knock the body out of balance and impede the smooth flow of energy we need for optimum function.
Kinesiology is a simple and effective way of talking to the body non-verbally and using a selection of corrections to unblock the energy flow and restore balance to the system (otherwise known as good health!).
KInesiology helps us to choose the best essential oils for the animal and assess meridian balance.
