Exploring Horse

Good horsemanship is a state of being

"Exploring horse" is born out of the understanding that good horsemanship is a state ofMan and horse jumping natural obstacle bareback  being, it is not dependent on a particular technique or riding style. Whether you are a fan of 'natural' horsemanship  or classical dressage, when you are with your horse the most important thing is Who You Are.

If you can transmit a sense of tranquil assurance and quiet confidence horses will choose to be in your company and follow your lead.

My approach is based on the principle that better     horsemanship starts with self-knowledge.  Exploring Horse teaches you how to work with your horse in a spirit of curious exploration, helps you develop inner and outer flexibility, and increases your skills and sensitivity with horses, using exercises based on the ancient traditions of qi-gong, aikido and tai chi, and modern body awareness techniques such as Alexander and Feldenkreis.

Grow and learn with "Exploring Horse"

Woman and horse play at libertyEach horse/human partnership is a unique adventure in learning, a voyage of discovery and expansion that takes horse and human beyond their limitations. The more relaxed, centered and playful we are the more our horses want to hang out with us and co-operate from a place of mutual enjoyment.

If you are interested in growing and learning about yourself, if you would like your relationship with horses to be one of trust and respect, if you would like to ride in balance and harmony, then I invite you to join me at one of my workshops, or contact me if you would like me to come to teach in your area.

Three simple steps improve your communication and horse-skills:

Man and horse, natural harmony, western style

  • STOP!  Be still within yourself, aware of your body and your surroundings, ready to take action from a relaxed and quiet space
  • LOOK! Observe horses, understand their native behaviour, pay attention to what they are communicating to you and to each other
  • LISTEN! Develop a state of mind which is receptive and alert like a horse’s, so you respond to your horse clearly and honestly.

Communication is our responsibility

Horses have refined social skills and great subtlety of communication, when entering their world it is our responsibility to understand their language and respect their customs, only then can we hope to communicate with them in a way that causes no offense and makes them interested in learning some of our language.

We can learn a lot from horses about living in community and honesty, and through this journey with horses we can grow and develop as human beings and co-habitants of Planet Earth.
